History

Galena Garlic Company began in the fall of 2003 in the small town of Galena, Illinois by Laszlo Marton. That fall, we planted our first round of hardneck garlic. We had a very successful year and we continued to grow year after year. In 2005 we held our first Galena Garlic Festival. We celebrated our harvest and everything garlic!

We invited many local vendors and restaurants who created special garlic dishes to sell at our festival. Shortly after, we opened our first retail store on Main Street in Galena, IL. We carried our garlic, garlic salsa and a few of our hand mixed, hand packaged spice blends. In 2007 we moved to a larger retail space and continued to grow our garlic crop as well as our blends and seasonings.

In 2010 we opened our second retail location in Geneva, IL. We then expanded to Madison, IN, a quaint little town on the Ohio River that has a very similar feel to our first town of Galena.

In 2014, Laszlo’s daughter, Nina, moved to Nashville and had a dream of bringing her family business to Tennessee. It didn’t take too long for Nina to get established here in Nashville. She began blending and selling her garlic and seasonings at the Nashville Farmer’s Market. In 2016, the first Tennessee shop was opened in East Nashville. We are continuing to grow our farming and retail business in Tennessee.  We have also opened an additional location in Grimsley, TN where we hold community events and sourdough bread classes. Our farm is now located in Clarkrange, TN where we hope to plant roots for many years to come!
